The Mitchell-Ruff Duo in Shanghai
The Mitchell Ruff Duo brought jazz to the Shanghai Conservatory for the first time after the Cultural Revolution in June 1981. This event was filmed by conservatory students given 3 super 8 cameras by the Duo. Part of the film was broadcast on the MacNeil Lehrer Report on New Year's Day 1982. For the complete story of the trip, see A Call to Assembly. Or read William Zinsser's account for the New Yorker, Shanghai Blues.
